A tour starts in Riga with an hour long ride to Sigulda, which is one of the most popular and most visited places in Latvia. This is due to its lovely environment, where the incredible ancient Gauja River Valley can be seen. The area is a combination of steep slopes, ravines, streams, sandstone and dolomite cliffs and caves. There are 221 cultural memorials in the park’s territory, as well as the highest concentration of castle mounds in Latvia found in a small area.

Firstly, visit the medieval Livonian Order Sigulda Castle. Nowadays, it is a great place for taking a walk around the walls of the castle and a look at the exhibits that are on display. Then, you will see Sigulda New Castle built at the end of 19th century and belonged to the family of the Grand Duchess Kropotkina, but later served as a writer’s castle and as a cardiology sanatorium. Close to the entrance of castle yard and the parking there is a small square full of cute sculptures of warriors made from metal household appliances and stone.

Your next destination will be the legendary Gutmanis Cave. A legend states that the water in the creek emanates from Gutmanis’s tears, and drinking it is supposed to be healthy and will boost one’s lifespan. Afterwards, you will take a ride on the aerial cableway along the 1060 meter long cable funicular, which is popular not only among tourists, but also among the locals. We are picking you up from your hotel in Riga and driving straight to Cesis town. Where we will visit Cesis castle build by German crusaders known as the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. They began construction of the castle near the hill fort in 1209. When the castle was enlarged and fortified, it served as the residence for the Teutonic Order's Local Master. We'll also have some time to have a walk in very beautiful central part of Cesis town.

Next we're heading to the town of Sigulda. Where we will visit Sigulda Castle built in 1207 as a castellum type fortress, later rebuilt into a convent type building. Originally built eight centuries ago, the castle reopened it’s walls to visitors in 2012 and now encourages everyone to step back in time and enjoy the surroundings that bore witness to many historical events.

Next stop is at the Turaida Medieval Castle. The most visited museum in Latvia, which tell the story of events that have occurred during the last 1000 years. Building of the castle was started in 1214 according to directions given by Albert, archibishop of Riga in the place where in former times was located wooden castle of Liv leader Kaupo. “Castellum” type fortress was built and named Fredeland in translation it means “Land of Peace”. This name was not popular and but the local name Turaida survived till nowadays. Perfection of defensive system of the castle continued also in the next centuries – in 14th century was built towershaped southern section, in the beginning of 15th century when fire arms were invented was built semi rounded western tower. Along with formation of fortifications household buildings and living houses were erected in the inner yard of the castle. Small reconstruction work was carried out in 17th century though castle started to loose its strategical meaning. After fire in 1776 it was not reconstructed and in the course of time it was ruined. Since 1976 regular archeological escavations were carried out which were followed by restauration and conservation works as a result castle regained a part of its initial shape. Exhibitions about history of brick castle and Gauja Livs are available in restaured buildings. From the view place of the main tower you can see the unique landscape of picturesque Gauja valley and territory of Turaida Museum Reserve.

After the visit of Turaida castle we will heading back to Riga.

Rundāle Palace, formerly also Ruhenthal and Ruhendahl is one of the two major baroque palaces built for the Dukes of Courland in what is now Latvia, the other being Jelgava Palace. The palace was built in two periods, from 1736 until 1740 and from 1764 until 1768. It is situated at Pilsrundāle, 12 km west of Bauska.

Bauska Castle is a complex consisting of the ruins of an earlier castle and a later palace on the outskirts of the Latvian city of Bauska.

The next stop is at the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, one of the oldest and largest open-air museums in Europe. View the work of traditional craftsmen and try-out first-hand molding pottery, weaving baskets, making honey or forging coins, or participate in traditional games the Latvians of old used to play.

Open-Air Museum has Tavern Restaurant on site. This has been a place for travelers to stop for a while, to have a meal or to stay for a night and find out the latest news and rumors of the neighborhood. Everything is genuine here like the Big Hall with the bread oven or the large chimney in the pastor's chamber. One can feel the smell of the past and the ancient stories are still alive here. Just like in 1841, bread is baked in wood-fired oven, preparing roasts, in chimney cook a proper rural soup. In here hostesses cooked dishes and Latvian stitched beer taste just as good as hundred years ago.

After the visit of museums you will be heading back to your hotel.
